How to Set Reminders on WhatsApp (No App Needed)
WhatsApp has no built-in reminder button — but you can still set reminders on WhatsApp in under a minute. The trick: save a reminder assistant's number and message it like you'd message a friend. Say "remind me tomorrow at 6pm to call Mummy" and at 6pm tomorrow, the reminder lands in your WhatsApp chat. No app to download, no account to create, works on any phone that runs WhatsApp.
Step 1: Say hi to a reminder assistant
Open SAM on WhatsApp and send "Hi". That's the whole setup. SAM replies in the chat and from then on it's just a normal WhatsApp conversation.
Step 2: Type the reminder in plain language
There is no format to learn. These all work:
- "Remind me at 5pm to pick up the kids"
- "Remind me tomorrow morning to submit the electricity bill"
- "Remind me on 15 August at 9am — Ravi's birthday"
- "Har roz subah 8 baje paani ka reminder bhejo" — Hindi and Hinglish work too
Too lazy to type? Send a voice note. SAM understands voice notes in Hindi and English and sets the reminder from what you said.
Step 3: Make it repeat (this is where it beats alarms)
Phone alarms are fine for one-off things. The reminders that actually save you money and relationships are the repeating ones:
- "Remind me on the 1st of every month to pay rent"
- "Remind me every Sunday at 7pm to plan the week"
- "Remind me every day at 10pm to take my medicine"
- "Remind me every year on 2 March — wedding anniversary"
Set once, and it fires every time. If bills are your main worry, we wrote a full guide on never missing a bill payment the WhatsApp way.
For reminders you really can't miss: get a call
A WhatsApp message can still be scrolled past. For the important ones — medicines, a flight, a payment deadline — SAM can place a real phone call at the reminder time. It's the same idea as our wake-up alarm that calls you: a ringing phone is much harder to ignore than a notification.
Why WhatsApp beats a reminder app
- You already open it 50+ times a day — reminders land where your eyes already are.
- Nothing to install or update — works on any phone, any storage situation.
- Everyone in the family can use it — if they can send a WhatsApp message, they can set a reminder. No training needed for parents.
- Plain language, any language — no forms, no date-pickers.
What it costs
Core reminders on SAM are free — no card, no trial timer. If you want more (higher limits, reminder calls), paid plans start at ₹149/month. Details on the pricing page.
FAQ
Does WhatsApp have a built-in reminder feature?
No. WhatsApp itself can't set reminders. You use an assistant inside WhatsApp — like SAM — which messages you back at the time you asked for.
Can I set repeating reminders, like monthly bills?
Yes — daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. Say it once ("every month on the 5th, electricity bill") and it repeats until you tell it to stop.
Is it free?
The free plan covers core reminders with no card required. Pro plans from ₹149/month add reminder calls and higher limits.
That's the whole method: one saved number, plain-language messages, reminders where you'll actually see them.
